We have bidden farewell to most of the sailing ships and yachts which came to Szczecin for the 2017 Tall Ships' Races finals.

We managed to peek inside two of them before they had sailed away: Kruzenshtern and Helen. We saw the usually unavailable museum of the Russian giant and the machine room of the Finnish vessel says the tallships.szczecin.eu web portal.

Pavel Starostin, the first officer of Kruzenshtern invited the organizers under the deck to show them a mini museum with various souvenirs given to the crew by representatives of host cities and awards won at numerous races. "The exhibition is a permanent one. For safety reasons we have glued the exhibits to the shelves. Unfortunately, the display is closed to the public." - says the first officer.

Another much smaller vessel was moored on the Łasztownia Island, but still a very beautiful one - Helena, which represented Finland. "It has covered so many nautical miles that we could sail around the globe 27 times." - admits captain Bent Lindfors. He adds that he likes Szczecin very much and the Philharmonic in Szczecin is very much to his liking. He also prepared a surprise for the organizers - a visit to the heart of this age-old sailing ship, its machine room.

Jack Sparrow, a character known from the movie series Pirates of the Caribbean, is already on the Łasztownia Island. So if there is the famous pirate there also should be his ship - Black Pearl. Artists from Szczecin and Sopot are building this ship out of the sand. Works are due to finish later on today.

The Sandstone Sculpture Festival "Maritime legends from Szczecin sands" is being held on the Łasztownia Island. This is an accompanying event of the 2017 The Tall Ships' Races finals. Every day visitors can admire incredible sculptures. The last final one is being constructed as we speak. The pirate ship "Black Pearl" is being built by artists from Szczecin: Ela Blanka, Dominika Kuczkowska and Mikołaj Jerczyński - and Mariusz Otta from Sopot.

Sand sculptures can be enjoyed every day between 9 am and midnight - during the finals of the regatta. In the evenings they are lit-up. Until 20th August, the sculptures will be available to the public until 10 pm.

On 12th and 19th August, another attraction for children will be held. Elżbieta Blanka will host sand sculpture building workshops. The entrance and participation in the workshops is free of charge.

The finals of the TSR have been quite peaceful, at least from the side of the water - say the Water Rescue Workers, who from Monday last week worked in a special rescue centre on Bielawa Island. The number of interventions from the start of the finals to its end reached eleven.The most serious one, they had to deal with, was a heart attack on a pontoon bridge. "The patient was transferred to a hospital without delay. Many other cases have been prevented much earlier", says Przemysław Janusz from Szczecin Water Rescue Centre.

However, this not the end of their work. "Despite the fact that the tall ships sailed away from Szczecin, the rescuers will not leave the Bielawa Island", says Mirosław Gosieniecki, a deputy president of the Szczecin Water Rescue Centre.

Over 70 rescuers in 10 boats and 2 jet skis watched over the safety during the Tall Ships' Racer this year.

Fast hundert Mal musste die Rettungskräfte während des Tall-Ships-Races-Finale eingreifen. Bei der Hälfte der Einsätze mussten die Patienten ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert werden, erklärte der medizinische Koordinator Paweł Cierlecki Radio Szczecin. Nach Meinung der Einsatzkräfte gab es jedoch wesentlich weniger Unfälle und Erkrankungen im Vergleich zu den früheren Regattafinalen in Szczecin. In der medizinischen Versorgung waren in diesem Jahr 60 Personen engagiert. Neben den Rettungsärzten und Krankenwägen waren auch mehr als ein Dutzend Freillige zu Fuß unterwegs.

Eine positive Bilanz sogen auch die Wasserwacht, die bereits vor einer Woche auf der Insel Bielawa ihr Zentrum eingerichtet hatten. Gemeinsam mit der Polizei und den Rettungskräften patrollierten sie rundum die Hakenterrasse und der Insel Lasztownia. Seit Beginn des Regattafinales bis Montag Abend mussten sie nur elf Mal eingreifen. Letztendlich gab es nur einen wirklich ernsthaften Einsatz, als ein Besucher auf einer der Pontonbrücken einen Herzinfarkt erlitt. Der Patient konnte allerdings schnell ins Krankenhaus gebracht werden. Bei den anderen Interventionen handelte es ausschließlich um kleinere Zwischenfälle, wie Przemysław Janusz von der Stettiner Rettungswacht berichtet. Obwohl die Segelschiffe Szczecin bereits verlassen haben, arbeitet das Einsatzzentrum auf der Insel Bielawa noch bis zum 13. August. Am nächsten Wochenende sind sie noch beim "Pyromagic Feuerwerkfestival" und der "Szczecin Water Show" im Einsatz. Insgesamt haben während des Tallships-Races-Finale 70 Rettungskräfte auf 10 Booten und 2 Wasserskutern gearbeitet.

Heute morgen haben auch die "Kruzenhstern" und die "Helena" Szczecin verlassen. Der russische Großsegler ist nicht nur eines der schönsten Schiffe auf des Regattafinales. An Bord gibt es auch einen ganz besonderen Raum, ein Museum mit verschiedenen Erinnerungsstücken, die die Kruzenhstern von ihren vielen Fahrten mitgebracht hat. Darunter befinden sich, wie der erste Offiziert des Schiffes, Paval Starostin, erklärt die verschiedenen gewonnenen Pokale, aber auch ausgewählte Geschenke von Gasthäfen aus der ganzen Welt, unter anderem ein ausgestopftes Krokodil. Auch von der finischen "Helena" gibt es interessantes zu berichten. Wenn man die Seemeilen zusammenzählt, die das Schiff schon gefahren ist, könnte man 27 Mal die Erdkugel umrunden, erklärt Bent Lindfors, der Kapitän des Seglers. Die finnische "Helena" hatte während des Regattafinales an der Insel Łasztownia festgemacht.
